Dear Colleagues,

I write you today with a reminder about what I believe are our responsibilities as employees of a trusted media organization during this political season.

As a broadcast institution with a stellar reputation for accuracy and fairness over our 54 plus year history, NCPB values its reputation in the community as an unbiased source of news and information and we wish to maintain this public trust and the editorial integrity of our news stories, especially now that it's election time and the political campaign season is in full swing.  While we encourage each and every one of you to participate in the political process as you desire, we also want to remind you to avoid any overt displays of political advocacy in the workplace such as political campaign posters, buttons, and t-shirts.

As you are aware, members of the public and press visit and pass by various departments and locations throughout 2601 Mariposa Street, 1585 Schallenberger Road and NCPB's news bureaus throughout California every day.  So, it is extremely important that we avoid any public perception of political advocacy on our part.

It is also important for all of us to be sensitive to the diverse viewpoints in our midst and within our communities we serve and to the neutral role we as a news organization must play in our coverage.  For these reason I hope you will join me in maintaining our integrity and credibility as a media institution and valued community resource by not overtly displaying your political advocacies within your offices, cubicles or on your persons while at work.

Please feel to contact me if you have any questions about this matter.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Jeff
